Baked Beans

These aren’t your typical baked beans. They are BAKED BEANS, amped up to the point they could be a meal by themselves. I got this recipe from my mother in law, and it’s become my go-to dish to bring to barbecues. It can easily be doubled to make a bigger batch, which is what I do. I’ll admit I’m not usually a big fan of kielbasa or smoked sausage, but fry it in the bacon grease, and it’s super yummy. You could use ground beef or chicken, or even eliminate the meat {shudder}.  Feel free to play with it to suit your tastes, but I think you’re going to love it just like this.

6 sliced bacon, chopped

½ package of Kielbasa, sliced in ½ inch pieces

½ cup ketchup

½ cup brown sugar

1 Tbs. yellow mustard

1 large can Baked Beans

1 can dark red kidney beans

1 can butter beans

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Cook chopped bacon in small sauce pan until crispy. When finished, remove and drain on paper towel.
  3. Add kielbasa to bacon fat and cook until browned on all sides. Remove and drain on paper towel.
  4. In separate sauce pan, heat ketchup and brown sugar until sugar has melted into sauce and add mustard. Combine well.
  5. Open three cans of beans, draining all. Rinse the kidney and butter beans.
  6. In baking dish, combine all beans, sauce, bacon and sausage.
  7. Bake for 30-45 minutes and brown and bubbly.
